Solid, dependable, sturdy,
Characteristics of cold stone,
Supposedly desirable in a man,
But what kind of heart is then shown?
What would make his substance worthy,
Of friendship, trust, value or more?
What would show evidence, something,
That beneath the surface is more than cold rock,
Inside the dark cage, birds still sing,
Oceans, some place, give way to shore?
Or is man condemned to stone walls?
Societal pressures contain,
Constrain and prevent his soul’s striving for breath,
All his attempts, alas, in vain,
Convention prohibits withdrawals,
